Scenes from an Execution

Sly Howard Barker offers 16th century Venice as the setting to provoke 21st century audiences. Rebel female painter Galactia is commissioned by the Doge to paint a vast canvas celebrating a triumphant battle. Yes, there are tensions between personal ambition and moral responsibility seen through the lens of sexual politics. But this play defies expectation (you’ll laugh quite a bit) and how you feel at the end is anyone’s guess.

Note: Oxford Dictionary’s first definition of the word ‘execution’: the act or process of executing; carrying out something in full.

Ladies Night
Thursday, April 18 | 6pm

Quantum is bringing back Ladies Night, and we hope you’ll join us in a toast to our leading lady, Galactia. Her strong character stands at odds with the male centers of power. She makes a painting that is a protest of war, in its depiction of reality. But that’s just the beginning, the play sparks all kinds of ideas about art, commerce, and gender, which are especially relevant right now, and it surprises with its humor, upending expectations. Enjoy a complimentary pre-show cocktail and card reading with Rosebush Tarot at The Storyville Lounge at Dr. Tumblety’s.

Ladies Night is sponsored by:
