Near Buy logo: Supporting Local commerce

Quantum Theatre has long been thankful for the privilege of guiding our patrons, friends, and family on explorations of Pittsburgh’s neighborhoods. The NearBuy initiative, generously funded by the Richard King Mellon Foundation, offers a unique opportunity for you to continue exploring our city while supporting local businesses.

We’re partnering with restaurants in communities hosting upcoming shows: Downtown, Homewood, and Point Breeze. Simply mention that you are a friend of Quantum and every dollar up to $3,000 per partner will be matched as gift cards or meals distributed to neighbors experiencing food insecurity, in partnership with distribution partners 412 Food Rescue, Feed the Hood, Wilkinsburg Community Ministry, and River City Eats. Matching continues through September.

Ms. T’s Restaurants

Homewood

Ms. T got her start as a cook watching her grandmother, who raised her. She would get up every morning to make her and her brother a hot breakfast before school and taught her everything she knows about cooking. She knew then that one day she wanted to one day have a restaurant of her very own.

Years later, she came to D&C Sandwich express and over time became a key member of the team. Owner Derrick Hemby pulled her aside one day and told her, “You have the drive to be the boss, one day this will be yours.” True to his work, she became manager in 2019, and in 2020 he handed her the keys to the shop. Now rebranded as Ms. T’s Restaurants, it continues to operate out of the Galaxy Lounge offering lunch, dinner, and catering.

East End Brewing Company

Homewood

East End Brewing Company has been brewing beer, cider, and soda-pop in the East End for just over 16 years. In any given year they brew as many as 60 different beers. Like Quantum they have a deep appreciation for the rich tapestry of neighborhoods that make Pittsburgh so remarkable, and in 2019 they launched their You Are Here series creating unique brews for each of Pittsburgh’s 90 neighborhoods.

Since the pandemic EEBC has shifted to conducting nearly all of its business as touchless curbside takeout via their website. They also offer Saturday Home Delivery (FREE if you’re in their large coverage area), and welcome impromptu walk-in sales and the opportunity to provide more personal recommendations. For the bold and the bundled, they also offer on-site enjoyment of their beverages on an unheated patio. They’ve also converted the brewpub’s kitchen into a deep dish pizza factory, which offers pizza by the slices and the whole pie, both for here and to go.

All of this can be found on the webstore, and be sure to use the word QUANTUM on your order comments (the first screen after payment), so your order can be marked for a NearBuy match.

In 2013 she finally got the opportunity to bring her idea of a “Proper” Bar and restaurant to her beloved hometown when she launched Proper Brick Over & Tap Room, located in the heart of Pittsburgh’s Cultural District.
