Lucy Kirkwood’s 2014 drama about East/West relations won London’s Evening Standard and Olivier Awards for Best New Play. In 1989, a young American photojournalist captured an image that arrested the world: a protester facing down four tanks in Tiananmen Square. Beginning in this moment past, the play fast-forwards to US-China relations in recent times, and an examination of capitalism and culture, journalism and censorship getting more relevant by the day.
