Quantum Theatre_Chimerica_-Web-Show-Title

June 5 – 28, 2020

By Lucy Kirkwood
Directed by Karla Boos
Scenography by Susan Tsu

Lucy Kirkwood’s 2014 drama about East/West relations won London’s Evening Standard and Olivier Awards for Best New Play. In 1989, a young American photojournalist captured an image that arrested the world: a protester facing down four tanks in Tiananmen Square. Beginning in this moment past, the play fast-forwards to US-China relations in recent times, and an examination of capitalism and culture, journalism and censorship getting more relevant by the day. Chimerica finds that American journalist two decades later, seeking the truth behind the political facade of the two superpowers; the stories that exist beyond the margins of a frame.
